This Thursday, March 3, 2011, from 6 – 8:15 p.m. at 501 S.E. Hawthorne Boulevard, the process of determining the fate of Multnomah County Animal Services FY 2012 funding begins and with it, the fate of thousands of lost and homeless dogs and cats.

Multnomah County Chair Jeff Cogen and the County’s Citizen Involvement Committee will host the second of two budget meetings to gather feedback on which county services are of the highest importance to the community.

Based on the feedback from this forum, Chair Cogen will write the Executive Budget which will be released May 5th. Three budget hearings allowing public testimony on this Executive budget, will take place May 16th, May 25th and May 31st.  The final FY 2012 will be adopted June 9th.

Gimme Shelter Portland will be using the March 3, budget forum as the first opportunity to express our disappointment over the millions of tax dollars spent subsidizing failure at MCAS.

We will be demanding that the Multnomah County Chair and Commissioners replace MCAS with a modern, vibrant animal services agency which reflects our community’s progressive values.
